Bringing together place leaders, investors, and intermediaries pioneering or exploring place-based impact investing (PBII) across the UK

The movement for place-based impact investing is moving rapidly from ambition to real-world action. Across the UK, the market for impact investing is growing fast, with at least £76.8 billion now being deployed to create a positive impact in local economies, the environment, and in outcomes for individuals.

In the latest gathering our Place Coalition we will explore ‘the next generation’ of PBII: spotlighting emerging opportunities for investment partnerships in Yorkshire, and exploring the growing portfolio of investment opportunities designed to give the actual next generation – our children and young people – the best start in life.

Regional spotlight: South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire has a rich history of place-based impact investing, with Key Fund pioneering social investment in the region since the early 2000s, and the South Yorkshire Local Government Pension Fund standing as one of the UK’s early examples of a local government pension fund deploying capital for local impact.

Discover how place leaders in Sheffield and neighbouring regions are moving turning PBII ambition into action by integrating impact investing with strategic initiatives like the Sheffield City Goals.

The session will include a presentation on the Sheffield City Goals Accelerator, followed by a candid discussion on lessons from PBII pioneers across Yorkshire.

Investing in places to deliver children and young people the best start in life

£5 billion of impact investing is already being deployed to improve childcare, early years provision, and family outcomes across the UK, according to analysis by the UK Government’s Social Impact Investing Advisory Group.

In this session, we will hear from those developing a new social investment fund to support child outcomes in South Yorkshire, as well as others designing place-based impact investments to deliver affordable, accessible childcare; housing that enables children and families to thrive; and initiatives that tackle the drivers of poverty for the next generation.
