Roper Cleland is a Senior Programme Manager at the Impact Investing Institute, where she leads work on the Investing in Future Generations Lab. Her focus is on building the market for investing in children and young people, mobilising capital towards early intervention and prevention and helping investors apply a child lens to capital allocation.
Roper brings more than 15 years’ experience working across sustainability, human rights, social impact and capital markets. She has worked with investors, lenders, businesses, policymakers and civil society organisations to translate complex social challenges into practical strategies, partnerships and investment approaches that support systemic change.
Prior to joining the Institute, Roper held senior sustainability and human rights roles at bp and McDermott and led programmes and partnerships across the mining, energy and electronics sectors. Her experience includes coalition building, strategy development, theory of change design, research, fundraising and programme delivery. Roper has also contributed to research and publications on business and human rights, responsible supply chains and conflict-affected settings, and has supported emerging approaches to social-related financial disclosures.
Roper holds an MA in Social Anthropology of Development from SOAS University of London and a BA from Vassar College.
Outside of work, Roper volunteers with young writers at Ministry of Stories, supporting children and young people to build confidence through creativity and storytelling. She also enjoys writing fiction, running and exploring London’s history through mudlarking.
